Arthritis

Kia Ora people today in science we had to research about arthritis. Here is what me and Yazmin got from the research

What is arthritis -Arthritis is a term used to describe inflammation and damage to joints

What are the causes – Arthritis, a condition characterized by joint inflammation and pain. It can also be caused by cracking your fingers

What are the symptoms- The symptoms of arthritis can vary depending on the type, but common symptoms include:

Joint pain – aching or soreness in one or more joints

Stiffness – especially in the morning or after resting

Swelling – joints may look puffy or feel warm

Reduced movement – difficulty moving the joint normally

Redness – skin around the joint may look red

Fatigue – feeling unusually tired or low on energy

Muscle weakness – especially around affected joints

What are some of the treatments- There are several treatments for arthritis that help manage pain, reduce swelling, and improve joint function. These include:

Medications

Pain relievers like paracetamol or ibuprofen

Anti-inflammatory drugs to reduce swelling

Disease-modifying drugs for types like rheumatoid arthritis

Steroid injections for severe inflammation

Physical therapy

Exercises to strengthen muscles around joints and improve movement

Lifestyle changes

Staying active with gentle exercise like swimming or walking

Eating a healthy diet to reduce inflammation and maintain weight

Using hot or cold packs for pain relief

Surgery (in serious cases)

Joint repair or replacement (like a knee or hip)

Is cracking your fingers bad for you- Yes because the more you do it the more weak your bones can get cracking your fingers is bad because you can get arthritis. But some people say no but later in life there can be a compact

Science/Cat

In science we had to make a poster or Google slides about any animal or your favorite. I picked a cat because it was the easiest animal to do. We had to write down and fill out how the grow, sense, eat, breathe and Reproduce. And when we finished we need to put it on our blog post and post it.

Dance

What have I enjoyed about dance this term ?– I enjoyed making some dances up with the people that are also doing dance. I also enjoyed meeting some new people and doing dances with some of the teachers I don’t know.

What have I found challenging about dance?–  The thing I found challenging was trying to do all of the dance moves I found challenging. But after I started looking and focusing on the dance better I got it not perfect but good enough to pass with the other group

What would I like to try in dance next term?– I would like to try get better at doing the dances better and properly. I would like to change my group I dance with and actually do all of the dances and not mess around like some of the other people in my group did.

DISSOLVING

SALT EXPERIMENT

Kia Ora people welcome to my blog.

Last week in science, we carried out an experiment to test how quickly salt dissolves in water under different conditions. We used four beakers—two filled with hot water and two with cold water. In one of each, we stirred the salt, while in the other, we let it sit to see how long it would take to dissolve on its own. It was fascinating to observe how the salt vanished at different speeds, depending on the temperature and whether or not we stirred the water.

Our results showed that stirring made a big difference, especially in cold water, where the salt took 22.33 seconds to dissolve when mixed but over 3 minutes when left still. In hot water, even without stirring, the salt dissolved in just 3 minutes. This showed that heat speeds up dissolving because hot water molecules move faster, helping break the salt apart more quickly. If we had used even hotter water or stirred more vigorously, the salt likely would have dissolved even faster!

Through this experiment, we discovered that both temperature and movement impact how fast substances dissolve. The salt disappeared quicker in hot water than in cold, proving that heat increases the speed of molecular movement. Stirring also helped because it kept the water in motion, allowing the salt to spread out and dissolve more easily. It was a great way to see science in action—just like how sugar dissolves faster in a hot drink than in a cold one!

That’s all for today’s science lesson! Hope you found it interesting—see you next time!

What I Liked About Home Economics

This term the practical I enjoyed most was when we were all making the foods and eating it. The reason I enjoyed it was because when I cook there’s nothing else better I can be doing because everything else I do is boring. The suggestion I have for a practical for net term is doing more healthy food and like less fat food because just cooking fat food isn’t always good for us. And I also want to cook Tuesday and Friday because we are only it on Tuesdays. I don’t think I need the teacher to help me with anything because I feel like I could do things by my self

I wasn’t at school on Tuesday because I was out doing my course. My group made me some and I only took one but then I got one given to me.

Chocolate Cookies

chocolate chips

butter

flour

sugar

condensed milk

On Tuesday we made some chocolate chip cookies, It took us longer  to make because we didn’t put the tray in right. It took us a bit to mix all of the ingredients together because our electric stir was not working so we had to use a wooden spoon but that’s was okay.

Banana Choc Chip Muffins

11-3-2025

On Tuesday we made some chocolate chip muffins for our cooking day. I was in a group with 2 people that are both of my friends. We all took turns doing the fixing and breaking the eggs and the bananas and we were just laughing and gagging because the bananas felt yuck. I feel like me and my team worked very well because we were including each other, and we were doing the work plus listening.

1- Like last week I had the same people in my group, Yazmin and Maia.

2- We all enjoyed doing the cooking because as soon as we get it done we pull it out and wait for it to cool down.

3- When The food comes out we start eating it straight away because you know we were all hungry and couldn’t wait but we need to learn to make them slower once again and we need to learn not to eat them as soon as they come out of the oven

How to make it

Flour

Sugar ( optional )

Salt

Butter

Milk

Baking powder

Cheese

And jam if you wanted it

Bread cases practical.

1- In my group I was with Maia and Yazmin we started talking about how we were going to do things.

2- I enjoyed eating the food and also making it because we made it pretty fast.

3- Make the food slower so we have more time to enjoy it and not eat it as soon as it comes out of the oven.
